We will go through the process of inoculating a few garden beds with Stropharia rugosoannulata, also know as garden giant. Garden giant is a great fungal partner to have in a garden setting. Aside from being edible, it also has bioremediation properties. Come join us and learn more.

Hosted by Bay Area Permaculture Guild+friends!

🌱🍄✨ Happy March! Join us for our monthly gathering to connect, share, and learn. This month, we are thrilled to welcome Justin McDavid, the current President of Bay Area Applied Mycology (BAAM) for a presentation on inoculation-techniques for intentionally growing log-decomposing fungi outdoors in the challenging Mediterranean climate of Northern California. The presentation will be highly visual, with plenty of examples, cautionary tales, and opportunities for questions/discussion. About Justin: Justin McDavid is a professional designer and tech writer, and also the current President of Bay Area Applied Mycology (https://bayareaappliedmycology.org). His interests in biomimetics, ecology, and sustainability led him to fungi, and he now spends a lot of his time trying to connect others to the beauty and vast potential of the mycological world. He’s interested in developing tools to stave off ecological disaster, and believes that fungi and applied mycology will play outsized roles as we wade deeper into the Anthropocene. Talk Title:  2025 California Burn Morel Scene: Where, When and How - Morel Webinar

Description:

2024 was a tough year with over 2 million acres burnt across the state of California. This tragedy is a boon for morels and morel lovers though, as many of these fire-charred areas will fruit large amounts of morels this year.  Learn more about the many species of burn morels and their unique lifestyle. Trent will share the inside scoop with MSSF members: the where, when and how to find burn morels in California.

Bio:

Trent and Kristen Blizzard are the writers of the Modern Forager blog, the creators of GeoForager mushroom maps and the authors of Wild Mushrooms - A Cookbook and Foraging Guide. Based in Reedsport Oregon, Trent and Kristen (along with Benzie and Lulu, their crazy doodles) chase burn morels and many other types of mushrooms across the PNW and North America.
